What You Get (in Northeast Florida) for … $900,000
OK, I’m back with another “What You Get For…” post. You’ll note that I’ve changed the title a bit for the sake of accuracy. While Jacksonville is the primary MSA down here where I live and work, there’s really quite a bit more beyond the Duval County lines. So, I’ve changed the title to “What You Get (in Northeast Florida) For…” to better reflect the areas I’ll be referencing. Specifically, I’ll be talking about St. Johns County, which encompasses St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra Beach, not to mention Clay and Baker Counties.
This week, we’re looking at the $900,000 price point, as set out by the Property Values column in the New York Times. So, let’s get started…
Snowmageddon and Some Perspective on Place
Today, as a blizzard hammers Chicago, I’m sitting with the windows open and a warm breeze blowing in down here in Jacksonville, Florida. I’m not gloating. I grew up in the Chicago area and have so many wonderful memories of my time there. I went to high school on the North Shore, where much of the John Hughes cannon was created. Again, my point isn’t to gloat about our great weather here in Florida. Rather, I’m thinking about how easy it can be to let nostalgia cloud our vision of the here and now. Because right now, here in Ponte Vedra near Jacksonville, things are pretty good.
I’ll always miss Chicago. But let me tell about a few of the places and things I’m finding here in northeast Florida that make living here great. You know, besides no snow and lots of sunny weather… [Read more…]
What You Get (in Jacksonville) for … $500,000
If you haven’t read one of my “What You Get For…” posts before (and I’m guessing many of you haven’t), let me give you some background. Occasionally, the New York Times will publish an article in the Great Homes & Destinations section showcasing various properties on the market around the country. The featured homes usually come from three different cities, but they are all listed at or around a specific price point.
As a REALTOR® in the Jacksonville market, I’m simply taking the same concept but applying it to the northeast Florida market. This time around, for example, the Times is looking at homes listed for around $500,000. Let’s see what we can find in and around Jacksonville for that same price… [Read more…]
