Each year for a few days in May, THE PLAYERS Championship puts Ponte Vedra Beach, and Sawgrass, on the world stage. Professional golfers, and their fans, get a close up look at the storied Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, as well as the community that surrounds it.
While the spotlight shines brightest on TPC Sawgrass during THE PLAYERS Championship (May 5 – 10 this year), it’s important to note that there is another Sawgrass community entirely that lies just east of A1A. This is the original Sawgrass Country Club, which began construction in 1972.

In fact, it was the East-West Course at the Sawgrass Country Club that played host to THE PLAYERS Championship from 1977 to 1981. Since then, the tournament has been played at TPC Sawgrass.
