Punxsutawney Phil may be predicting six more weeks of winter, but here in Florida, we’re already thinking golf. With so many golf courses, golf course communities and golf-related events, it’s clear that the game of golf translates to big business in Florida.
In fact, according to this article in Fort Myers Florida Weekly, Florida has more than 21,294 golf holes, more than any other state. It’s also number one in the country when it comes to the number of tourists visiting the state specifically to play golf.
It’s easy to see why. There are 1,183 golf courses in Florida. But we like to think that Florida’s golf obsession begins here, on Florida’s First Coast.
For instance, the PGA Tour is headquartered here in Ponte Vedra Beach. The PLAYERS Championship, sometimes referred to as golf’s fifth major, is played at The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. World Golf Village and the World Golf Hall of Fame are just down the road in St. Augustine. And it’s pretty easy to find a tee time wherever you are in Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine:
Florida’s First Coast of Golf is a great resource for anyone planning a golf trip to Florida. And for those wanting to really live the Florida golf lifestyle, we can get you started with a few popular area golf course communities:
- Queens Harbour Yacht & Country Club
- Jacksonville Golf & Country Club
- Marsh Landing Country Club
- The Plantation at Ponte Vedra Beach
- Palencia
- St. Johns Golf & Country Club
